What is aeration?

Aeration is the process of adding air to soil or substances so that it is exposed to clean or clear any blockages or added purities.

Air is forced into or mixed with the substance which allows oxygen to circulate.

Some samples, uses and clarification of the processes are outlined below.

To air out your shoes, you expose them to fresh air to allow them to smell fresher and allow the oxygen or sun to kill any bacteria.

To aerating sewer waste enables small organisms to decompose the waste matter.

Blood is aerated or uses a process called oxygenate which is the supply of oxygen.

Live bait wells uses aeration to force oxygen to keep live fish, shrimp and baits alive.

Beer uses aeration to allow for the healthy growth of yeast in processing.

Soil is aerated to allow water to penetrate the roots of grass and other plants.

When drinking wine, to aerate means to allow the air to prepare the wine for drinking. When tasters decant the wine it allows odors to escape. It enhances the taste of the young or older wines.

Paper is aerated that allows each sheet of paper to go thru the printing press. Otherwise paper would stack or stick to one another, causing some pages to skip the print or not have anything printed on them, similar to when people lick their fingers when flipping book pages.

Aerification punch machines are used to force small nickel to quarter size holes into the ground. The holes allow the roots of the plants to expand and nutrients or fertilizers to get fed into the holes.

Aerator is known as the machine or tool that is involved in supplying or forcing the air through the process. Aerification or Aeration is known as the process of forcing or supplying the air through the substance.
