While you do not specifically need a dedicated aerator for a saltwater fish tank, you do need something to provide filtration and current thereby bringing aeration into the fish tank. How do you set up a saltwater tank and what things do you need…a good book, or two, or three. There is too much information to post on this. Doing research on your own is the only way you will be successful in maintaining a saltwater tank. There is a ton of info available in books and the internet, take advantage of it so that you can make educated decisions when it comes to purchasing a tank and choosing its inhabitants.

They could theoretically work just as efficiently as any mechanized aerator, but it might be more work to use it.
Make sure the tines of your aerator are hollow, so that they remove a core of soil from the lawn. Solid-spike aerators jsut compact the soil around the hole they make, which defeats the purpose.
