Faq – About Aeration And Seeding

David asks…

Sequence, aeration, over seeding, lime and start fertilizer?

Hi All,

This is the first time I am going to aerate my lawn. I would like to know the sequence I need to follow like, aerate first then lime and then seed and fertilize?

Thanks

Staff answers:

Aerate, then lime (if you need it — check the pH of your soil first) then reseed. Do not fertilize if you are reseeding. It will not do any good to the new grass plants. You would be better to fertilize in the spring once the new grass has got itself established.

Michael asks…

what do mean by GRUB,PEST CONTROL,WEED CONTROL,SEEDING AND SODDING,AERATION AND FERTILIZER AND NUTRIENTS?

Staff answers:

Grubs are japanese beatle larvae that feed on plants with small root systems (i.e. Grass)

Pest Control is for pests such as rabbits, feild mice, and other animals that would dig in your grass. (remember, if its a pest use pest-icide. If its an insect use insect-icide)

Weed Control Is a certain chemical they mix in with the grass that kills the any pplant other than the grass (kinda like chem lawn and tru green) but when you buy it in a bag of soil or while its been sprayed on a patch of grass your gonna have to reapply it a couple of times a year, and its dangerous for small pets and children.

Seeding and Sodding means it works with to plant seeds in.

Aeration means the soil will stay loose so air can get through it

and fertilizer and nutrients is the plant food. If its good fertilizer it should have a nitrogen base of about 20 – 25% cheaper plant food usually has around 15% nitrogen in it.

Helen asks…

which two of the following materials are mixed in the seeding medium to give good drainage and aeration?

a. peat moss and vermiculite
b. sand and sphagnum moss
c. sand and perlite
d. perlite and peat moss

Staff answers:

Perlite and vermiculite. Also the sand or rocks at the bottom would make good drainage.
